One of the major functions of the Community and Economic Development Department is long-range planning for the City of West Des Moines. Such activities include the update and maintenance of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, which sets goals, policies, land use designations, and roadways for current and future development of the City. The current Comprehensive Plan was adopted by the City in 1993.
GOOD NEWS! The City Council has finished their initial review of the update to the City's Comprehensive Plan. The final draft is ready for City Council, City Departments, and public review.
Follow this link to the most up-to-date draft of the Comprehensive Plan. The City Council is scheduled to close the public hearing on the Comprehensive Plan update and adopt the new document at its September 20, 2010, meeting.
