South 50th Street Improvements

Estimated Start:  June 2016

Project Overview:  The South 50th Street project will include grading, utilities, and paving the roadway from Mills Civic Parkway to EP True Parkway.

 

Project Status:  South 50th Street is open from Mills Civic Parkway to EP True Parkway.  The contractor has substantially completed the project.  A walk through was completed in mid-July and the contractor is working on the punch list items.  The contractor is working on turf restoration and should be complete by the end of August.

South 60th Street Improvements phase I & II

Estimated Start:  June 2016

Estimated Completion:  November 2017

Contractor:  Concrete Technologies

 

Project Overview:  Reconstruction of South 60th Street from Grand Avenue to Mills Civic Parkway.  

 

Project Status:  South 60th Street is closed between Mills Civic Parkway and Booneville Road.  On Phase I the contractor is grading and seeding disturbed areas within the project.

The contractor has completed the water main and storm sewer installation on the Phase II.  The contractor plans to start paving the week of August 14th.  The project should be complete this fall.

South 88th Street Improvements

Estimated Start:  Spring 2016

Estimated Completion:  September 2017

Contractor:  Hawkeye Paving

 

Project Overview:  The South 88th Street reconstruction project will include grading, utilities, and paving the roadway.

 

Project Status:  South 88th Street and Booneville Road are open.  When Century Link removes their equipment from the intersection of South 88th Street and Booneville Road the City contractor will finish the paving.  A timeline for that work is undetermined at this time.  The contractor will resume grading and turf restoration in August.

Fox Creek Trunk Sewer Extension Phase II 

Estimated Start:  Summer 2016

Estimated Completion:  September 2017

Contractor:  Raccoon River Valley

 

Project Overview:  The Fox Creek Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 2 is a continuation of the Fox Creek Trunk Sewer project begun in 2015.  This segment will extend sewer from the northern terminus of the Fox Creek Trunk Phase 1 Sewer to the intersection of 98th Street and Ashworth Road. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed the sewer installation of the project. The contractor will be working on punch list items and turf restoration.

Stagecoach drive extension over sugar creek

Estimated Start:  April 2016

Estimated Completion: September 2017

Contractor:  United Contractors

 

Project Overview:   This projects consists of building the bridge on Stagecoach Drive over Sugar Creek.  The size of the bridge is 135’x30’. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has set the bridge beams and has poured the bridge deck.  They have also completed the channel shaping and rip-rap placement. They have installed the water main through Sugar Creek to connect the adjacent subdivision project.

Stagecoach Drive Extension 

Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  October 2017

Contractor:  McAninch Corporation

 

Project Overview:   This project will connect Stagecoach Drive from South 93rd Street to South 88th Street. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has installed the water main, storm sewer and paved the mainline of the roadway.  The contractor is working on backfill and site restoration.

Grand Avenue West Segment 6F Sewer   Estimated Start:  Winter 2016

Project Overview:  This project will install 3,871 LF of 15” and will include 163 LF of 15” tunneled sewer pipe with several manholes. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed the project with exception of the punch list items.

2016 Sewer Rehabilitation Program Estimated Start:  April 2017

Estimated Completion:  August 2017

Contractor:  Insituform Technologies USA

 

Project Overview:  This project will include Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining of approximately 860 linear feet of fifteen-inch (15”) diameter sanitary sewer, approximately 1,291 linear feet of twenty-four-inch (24”) diameter sanitary sewer, and approximately 1,126 linear feet of thirty-six-inch (36”) diameter sanitary sewer and other miscellaneous associated work. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed the project.

Raccoon river park road drainage improvements Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  August 2017

Contractor:  Corell Contractor

 

Project Overview:  Construction of the Raccoon River Park Road Drainage Improvements, including all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for the project including the approximate quantities: 2751 LF of HDPE subdrain, 9 subdrain cleanouts, 1225 CY of topsoil and seeding & fertilizing.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has finished the project with final seeding occurring in August.

public safety station #21 hvac improvements project Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  August 2017

Contractor:  Woodruff Construction, LLC.

 

Project Overview:  The Project consists of the replacement of the mechanical systems serving the normally occupied portions of Public Safety Station 21 (all areas other than the vehicle bay). The existing mechanical systems serving these areas shall be removed, along with all system components other than those indicated to remain.  A new HVAC system shall be provided, including two boilers, an air-cooled chiller, a dedicated outside air air-handling unit, fan coil units, circulation pumps, distribution piping, new kitchen exhaust hood and make-up air unit, and ductwork.  Perimeter heating will be provided with heating hot water in select areas of the building. A new building automation system will be provided to serve all new mechanical system components. An alternate related to alternate building automation system manufacturers will be included as part of the bid. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor is substantially complete and is working on punch list items.

public safety station 18 Exterior improvements project Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Project Overview:  A remodeling project to provide a new single ply roof, a new metal roof, and other exterior envelope work at Station 18 at 5025 Grand Ave. Work includes selective demolition, concrete, masonry, metals, carpentry, insulation, windows, finishes, mechanical, electrical, and limited site work.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed the roof replacement.  The contractor will resume window repairs in August.

2017 PCC Patching and Medians program Estimated Start:  August 2017

Project Overview:  Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Patching at various locations including approximately 3,381 SY of reinforced 7” PCC full depth patching, 120 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching, 802 SY of reinforced 9” PCC full depth patching, 215 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 530 SY of reinforced 9” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 47 SY of reinforced 10” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), PCC curb and gutter replacement, intake reconstruction, manhole adjustments, drives, sidewalks, traffic control, traffic loops, and other miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has been doing saw removal at various locations.

2017 parking lot repairs Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Project Overview: 

Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Patching of parking lots at Fire Stations 17, 18, and 19 in West Des Moines including approximately 2,868 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching, 130 SY of double reinforced 10” PCC full depth patching, 185 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), PCC curb and gutter, subdrain installation, sidewalks, traffic control and other miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed Station #17, Station #19 and Station #18 repairs.  They will be working on punch list items and restoration.

2016 ADA Sidewalk Improvements Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  09/15/2017

Contractor:  MNM Concrete Specialists

 

Project Overview:  The construction includes approximately 1,050 square yard (SY) of sidewalk removal, 520 SY of 4” P.C.C. sidewalk, 450 SY of 6” P.C.C. sidewalk, 45 SY of 6” reinforced P.C.C. trail, 1400 Linear Feet (LF) of curb removal, 1400 LF of curb and gutter, fixture adjustments, miscellaneous grading, restoration, traffic control, and other associated work.        

 

Project Status:  The contractor has poured ramps on 7th Street, 16th Street, South 35th Street and 17th Street.  They are working on 42nd Street between Ashworth Road and Woodland Avenue.

2016 Durable Pavement Marking Project

2017 PCC Reconstruction Project
Estimated Start:  Summer 2017

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017

Contractor:  Alliance Construction

 

Project Overview:  The construction includes approximately 3900 square yard (SY) of pavement removal, 3900 SY of 6” P.C.C. pavement with integral curb, 4500 SY of subgrade preparation, 4500 SY of granular subbase, 1500 SY of driveway pavement, 650 Linear Feet (LF) of storm sewer, 2100 LF of subdrain, drainage structures, fixture adjustments, sidewalk pavement, miscellaneous grading, restoration, survey, traffic control, and other associated work. Each block will require approximately 6 to 7 weeks to complete. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor currently has the 200 & 300 blocks closed.  They have completed the 100 block and reopened that segment. 

The contractor has paved the 200 block of 3rd Street and is installing storm sewer and preparing to pave the driveway approaches. 

The contractor is working on the pavement removals of the 300 block of 3rd Street with storm sewer installation to follow.

2017 HMA Resurfacing Project
Estimated Start:  Summer 2017

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017

Contractor:  Des Moines Asphalt

 

Project Overview:  This project will resurface various locations in the City of West Des Moines.  Types of work including approximately 2556 tons of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) HT ½” surface course, 298 tons of HMA HT ½” leveling course 3764 tons of HMA HT ½” surface course,  3670 tons of HMA HT ½” intermediate course, 6597 square yards of grinding butt joints, 12819 square yards of asphalt surface milling, 62832 square yards of surface cleaning/tack coat, 4778 square yards of  PCC full depth patching, HMA full depth patching, HMA partial depth patching, fixture adjustments, pavement markings, traffic control, and miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed the work and reopened Buffalo Road between 73rd Street and 19th Place.   They also have completed the work at the intersection of Mills Civic Parkway/South 88th Street intersection around Houston Cemetery, 39th Street and Woodland Avenue next to Valley High School.

They are working on patching on Woodland between Cedar Drive and 45th Street.  The asphalt paving will follow immediately afterwards.

Dowling Access Map

Valley Junction Alleys Phase 4 Estimated Start:  August 2017

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017

Contractor:  Alliance Construction

 

Project Overview:  Valley Junction Alleys – Phase 4, including approximately:  1,955 SY of Granular Surfacing, 244 SY of 6” PCC Driveway Pavement, 2,083 L.F. of Subdrain, Excavation, Construction Staking, Traffic Control, Clearing and Grubbing, Surface Restoration, Fencing, and other related items needed to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has to move to one of the other segments due to communication lines in conflict with the work.  There will be no alley access while they are working on each segment.

Project Overview:  Construct SW 60th Street, SE 50th Street and SE/SW Adams Street including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for installation of approximately 6,800 CY of grading, 4800 SY of 8 in. PCC paving, 18400 SY of 8 in. reinforced PCC paving, 1060 SY of 9 in. reinforced PCC paving, 400 SY of bridge approach pavement, surface restoration, erosion control, pavement markings, traffic control and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.  

 

Project Status:  The contractor has paved a segment of SE 50th Street north of SE Adams Street and a portion of SW 60th Street south of SE Adams Street.

South Grand Prairie Parkway

Project Overview:  Construct S. Grand Prairie Parkway from SW Madison Avenue to Raccoon River Drive including all materials, labor and equipment necessary for installation of approximately: 2,400 LF of sanitary sewer, 6,190 LF of storm sewer with 37 structures, 6,925 LF of   24-inch water main including an encased river crossing, 462,170 CY of grading, 23,670 SY of PCC pavement and bridge approach, a 538-ft x 30-ft pretensioned prestressed concrete beam bridge with a 12-ft trail, 55 ACRES of surface restoration, erosion control including 9,940 TON of riprap, pavement markings, traffic control and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is doing mass grading between the Raccoon River and SW Madison Avenue.  They are also doing mass grading from Raccoon River Drive to the Raccoon River.  They are installing storm sewer and water main between SW Madison Avenue the Raccoon River.

Project Overview:  Construction of the Ashworth Road from Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street including 6,000 CY of Topsoil, 13,800 CY of Excavation, 7,000 CY of Below Grade Excavation (Core Out), 19,750 SY of Subgrade Preparation.  2,864 LF of Storm Sewer, 29 Storm Sewer Intakes and 4 Storm Sewer Manholes.  2,713 LF of Subdrain, Subdrain Outlets and Connections.  204 LF of Water Main and Fittings.  23 LF of Sanitary Sewer and 1 sanitary sewer manhole.  800 SY of 6 inch Non-Reinforced PCC, 920 SY of 6 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 218 SY of 7 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 17,460 SY of 9.5 inch Reinforced PCC Pavement, 2,496 SY of PCC Driveway, 2,427 SY of PCC Shared Use Path, and pavement, sidewalk and driveway removals.  And other miscellaneous work including Clearing and Grubbing, Traffic Control, Construction Survey, Erosion Control, Pavement Markings, Seeding, Fixture Adjustments and other Miscellaneous Removals.

 

Project Status:  The contractor will begin tree removal the week of August 21st.  They will close Ashworth Road from just west of Jordan Creek Parkway to 81st Street on September 5th.  Ashworth Road will be closed to through traffic.  Access for all businesses and residents that live along Ashworth Road will be through from Jordan Creek Parkway intersection.

When winter weather prohibits the contractor from working the road will be reopened for the winter months.  It will be closed down in the spring to complete the project.

Project Overview:  Construction of Coachlight Drive and S 77th St, including all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for the project including the approximate quantities: 12,968 SY of PCC paving, 20,150 CY of excavation, 4929 LF of storm sewer, 2941 LF of sanitary sewer, and 3718 LF of water main. 

 

Project Status:  The project will be let on August 30th and the contractor should begin work by mid-September.

cHANNEL rEPAIR pROGRAM Estimated Start:  August 2017

Project Overview:  Sanitary sewer concrete encasements, excavation, grading, rip rap placement, restoration of approximately 760 feet of stream bank, native seeding, live stake plantings, erosion control and access restoration at three locations along Jordan Creek to protect the City’s sanitary sewer infrastructure.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is working on the repairs adjacent to 68th Street.  There will be trail closures along EP True Parkway and 68th Street as part of this work.

98TH sTREET / uNIVERSITY aVENUE tRAFFIC sIGNAL Estimated Start:  August 2017

Contractor:  Jasper Construction

 

Project Overview:  Construction of traffic signals and pedestrian ramps including all labor, materials and equipment necessary to remove existing sidewalks, remove existing roadway median, erosion control, and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup.

 

Project Status:  The contractor is verifying utility line locations and depths.  The signal poles and mast arms are on order but typically have a twelve week lead to for delivery.

Holiday Park Baseball Improvements - Phase 4B and 5

Estimated Start:  June 2017
Estimated Completion:  October 2017
Contractor:  Iowa Athletic Field Construction
Project Overview:  Improvements to fields 7 and 8 (phase 4B) and fields 9 and 10 (phase 5). Improvements will include renovation of the existing ballfields including new infield material, sod, irrigation and dugouts. Other site improvements will include new pedestrian walkways, field lighting, and storm water improvements.

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed demo of fields and installation of new storm water utilities. Currently working on installation of new concrete walkways, infield material, irrigation, and dugouts.

Woodland Hills Park Site Development

Contractor:  Joiner Construction, Inc.
Project Overview:  Development of Woodland Hills Park located at 1230 S. 95th Street. Improvements include construction of a 2-5 and 5-12 yr-old playground; shelter; restroom; parking lot; and concrete walks. Water quality measures will also be incorporated including permeable pavers, bioretention cells, and soil restoration.

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed the project and the park is officially open.

Valley View Park Tennis Courts

Project Overview:  Construction of a pair of lighted asphalt tennis courts.

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed grading of site and has started installation of fence posts. Plans to start paving of the asphalt courts the week of August 21.

Fairmeadows Park Playground Replacement

Contractor:  Caliber Concrete
Project Overview:  Last Fall a City Engineering project to replace a storm sewer pipe under Locust Street directly impact the park including removal of the playground equipment, volleyball court, portions of sidewalk, misc tree removals, and stream channel reconstruction. This Spring, a separate Parks project will be contracted to restore the park including new playground equipment, sidewalks, and site restoration. During construction the park will remain closed to the public. 

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed the majority of site grading, sidewalk pavement, playground curb wall, and has completed installation of playground equipment. Contractor will be pouring concrete pad for playground tiles and completing other misc concrete work the week of August 14. 39TH STREET PARKING LOT

Project Overview:  Construction of a 45-stall parking lot with two access drives off of 39th Street. The parking lot will serve as a trail head for Jordan Creek Trail as well as serve as overflow parking for the Rugby Club located across the street. Project includes utility adjustments, site grading, storm water improvements, concrete paving, erosion control and site restoration.

 

Project Status: Project has been awarded and contractor will be scheduling a pre-construction meeting in the near future.

Project Overview:  Removal and replacement of damaged concrete panels on existing 10’ wide multi-use trails located generally around Wells Fargo Campus.

 

Project Status: Contractor has substantially completed the project including all of the concrete patches. In early September contractor will return to complete final restoration including sodding of disturbed areas.

Project Overview:  Construction of a pump station to pull water from Blue Heron Lake to supply the irrigation needs for the Raccoon River Park Softball Complex.  This project includes the installation of a pump station, associated piping, valves, inlet box screen, electrical control panel, and 6” HDPE piping. The project also includes plumbing modifications in the existing softball maintenance building to convert the irrigation system from potable water to water pumped from the lake.

 

Project Status: Project has been awarded and contractor will be scheduling a pre-construction meeting in the near future.
